Obituary of Narinder Chowdhary
Narinder Chowdhary passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family. He passed away at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa after a brave and courageous battle with lung disease.
Narinder was born on January 28, 1936, in Kisumu, Kenya (East Africa). He was the third of six children—four sons and two daughters. Both Narinder and his wife, Surjit, were teachers in Africa before immigrating to Canada, where they later found employment as public servants. Their journey first took them to Montreal and eventually to Ottawa, where they made their home and raised their family.
Narinder is survived by his devoted wife, Surjit Kaur; his children, Rupinder Kaur and Harvinder Singh; his daughter-in-law, Mandeep Kaur; his son-in-law, Sheldon Joseph; and his cherished granddaughter, Priya Kaur. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff at the Civic Hospital for their compassion, empathy, and dedicated care.
Narinder will be remembered for his deep love of family, his strength and resilience in the face of illness, and devotion to his family and community.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Ottawa Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
