James Deagle posted a condolence

Hello Family of Dr. Jonathan,
Please accept my condolences though I have only heard of Dr. Jon through Mackenzie and Marr guitars. When I saw that he was a doctor, I assumed he was a doctor of engineering with structures like guitars. So I was curious because these guitars are truly exceptional. It sounds like he was an exceptional doctor, husband and father too. It is inspiring to know that there are still people in the world who live their chosen path to the fullest to help others.

Thoughts and prayers are with the MacKenzie Family at this most difficult time. I was a patient of Jonathan’s for many years in Ottawa. Going to see him was like visiting with a close friend. His diagnostics were always right on. May he rest in peace.

Helen and Family, my deepest and heartfelt condolences.
I am deeply sadden to have just heard about Doctor McKenzie. He was a caring doctor who helped me get through my dark times which I greatly appreciate. My last meeting with him, I had showed him my guitar I brought from Europe which he enjoyed playing. Helen, I know he was passionate about guitars and his family. May all your fond memories bring healing in this most difficult time.

Dr Mackenzie and I worked together twice a week about 30 years ago at the Appletree Medical Centre on Merivale Rd. I was a young and new RPN at the time and he welcomed me and also mentored me every shift we had. One thing I always remember was how devoted he was to his family and he spoke of them so often with such love. He was a great doctor and inspired me to go on the become an RN. He was a cheerful and very friendly and knowledgeable doctor. I feel so grateful to have had that time with him. I then met Helen about 2 years ago for business and we had a wonderful liaison. I want to extend my deepest sympathies to her and the family for this tremendously sad loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.
Love to all, Nancy Brady.

Dr Mackenzie will be missed at Garden Terrace. All staff and residents who had the opportunity to be part of his life here understand the loss not only because he was a consummate professional but also because of his warmth and kindness. Dr Mackenzie's love of life and for those who shared it with him was prevalent in any chat we had with him. I was lucky enough to receive a gift of pictures he took at Gettysburg on a visit a few years ago and have them proudly posted in my office. We miss you Dr. Mackenzie and know that we appreciated all you did for our residents and staff.

I met this amazing man in his driveway last year as he needed help repairing his snowblower. After we spoke about life he mentioned he was doctor, due to our amazing conversation right there in the spot he took me in as a patient without knowing that in a few months I would need him when I got deathly ill.
I am fortunate to have met him and his amazing wife Helen who I always had candid and great conversations with when I visited his office for all of my needs. The difference between this man and others is he listened instead of judging and helped me more than anyone in life will ever know.
Not only a great doctor but a person who I grew so fond of (plus as a guitar player he showed me his guitar videos).
To Helen, Nancy and Family I grieve with you but am proud to say that I had the opportunity to meet this beautiful soul.
You all have a spot in my heart.

Jonathan started off as my husband’s doctor over 50 years ago and they became good friends. Jonathan was always up for a bike ride and joined Michael on the 100km MS bike tour several times as did other members of the family.
Jonathan was such a wonderful man who adored his family. We are blessed to have one of his photographs in our living room. He had a great sense of humour and we will miss him terribly.
