Obituary of Irma Straccini

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Irma Straccini (Tomassetti) late Monday December 8, 2025 on the feast day of the Immaculate conception of Our Lady.  Loving and devoted wife of 65 years to Ferdinando Straccini (predeceased 2024).  Loving mother of Roberto (Caroline) and Carlo. Loving grandmother of Nicholas.  

Irma was predeceased by her father Benigno, mother Elvira (Stefani) and sister Ada Sorcinelli from their small town in Italy, Pergola, Marches. 

Irma was born in a small town in Marches Italy, coming to Canada in 1959 with dad to make a new life. Although very daunting and full of anxiety in the beginning, she found her stride in raising a family and making long lasting friendships with fellow Marchigiani.  She loved to entertain and cook old family recipes from le Marches Italy, including incredible baked goods. She was always so proud when family, friends and guests would ask for seconds and thirds.  It was important that no one left hungry.  Being a Nonna (grandmother) was her proudest moment pouring out lots of love on her grandson Nicholas. 

Our thanks go out to the nursing staff at the Queensway Carleton for the great care and support just before her passing.

Family and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at St. Monica’s Parish, 2080 Merivale Rd. Ottawa.  This will be immediately followed by the entombment and a reception at Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa.
