Obituary of Leslie (Les) Cole Peers

The world lost a beautiful smile on November 13, 2025 with the peaceful passing of Leslie Cole Peers (Les). Born in Chatham, Ontario on May 14, 1942, Les had a sense of humour that he loved to share with everyone around him, brightening their day with smiles and laughter.

Les was a devoted husband to his wife and love of his life, Eileen (Byrne), a loving father to his son, Shawn, father-in-law to Jimena Martinez, a proud grandfather to Adrian and Natalia and brother to his sister, Christine. He was predeceased by his father (Leslie Arthur Peers), mother (Shirley Aileen Andrews), brother Jim and sister Gail.

He was a proud former member of the Royal Canadian Air Force where he excelled as a Certified Electronics Technician and was often charged with the exclusive responsibility to maintain some of the most advanced equipment of the day. After leaving the military, he obtained his Business Degree and moved to the CBC, where he enjoyed a career in television until he retired.

Never one to remain idle, Les became proficient at teaching himself a variety of skills from computer programming, website development, piano, Spanish, videography, line dancing, golf to handyman renovations around the house. Every new skill was approached with patience, persistence, curiosity and his trademark sense of humour.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their dedication, patience and the love they showed him during his period of care. In particular, we would like to acknowledge Nikki for her unwavering compassion, not only for Les, but for all the patients in her care. She was truly a guardian angel!

A Memorial Service will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa on Saturday, November 22nd at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Les’ honour to the Queensway Carleton Foundation at https://qchfoundation.ca/ways-to-give/tribute-gifts/.

We ask that everyone share a smile in memory of Les.
