Obituary of Vijay Kumar Kohli

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vijay Kumar Kohli, who left us at the age of 80 on November 12, 2025, after courageously fighting end-stage lung disease. Vijay will forever remain in our hearts and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Born to the late Sewaram Kohli and the late Dwarka Devi Kohli, Vijay was the beloved husband of Renu Kohli and the devoted father of Joy Kohli. He was the brother of the late Tilakraj Kohli and is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Kanwal Sahni and Kamlesh Sawhney. He is also survived by his cherished niece, Gunjan Bahri, and nephews Rohit Sahni, Neil Kohli, Roger Kohli, Luigi Kohli, Pankaj Sawhney, Deeraj Sawhney, and Neeraj Sawhney.

Vijay will be remembered for his resilience, kindness, and generous spirit. He lived life on his own terms and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those around him. A true jack-of-all-trades, he dedicated his life to learning and embraced every opportunity with curiosity and determination. Over the years, he worked as a banker, welder, farmer, and small-business owner—running both a smoke and gift shop and an ice cream shop—before retiring. He found joy in gardening, home projects, cooking, reading, swimming, and playing pool with friends.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the ICU team at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their exceptional care. Their compassion and dedication brought comfort to Vijay and to all of us during an immensely difficult time.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, as we come together to honour and celebrate Vijay’s full and beautiful life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Food Bank would be greatly appreciated. Vijay believed deeply in helping others and living a life of service, and such contributions would honour his generous legacy.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, sympathy, and support from our family, friends, and community. Your kindness has brought comfort to our hearts.
