Jocelyn Favreau

Obituary of Jocelyn Favreau

We sadly announce the peaceful passing of our dear Jocelyn (affectionately known as Jocy) at her sister’s home surrounded by so much love. Her husband David Hagerman predeceased her in 2015. She was the precious mother to Jonathan (Jenna Krug), whom she loved so completely. Very best friend and big sister to Colette (late Don Morin) and late Gillian. She was the first born daughter to the late Marc and Vonie Favreau.  Daughter in law to the late Glen and June Hagerman. Sister in law to Geraldine (late Richard) and Marsha (Jim Hendrickson). Stepmother to Shannon Hagerman. Will be missed by special cousin Peter Lewis (Emma). Jocelyn’s chosen family included Penny Bertand with whom she shared a duplex with for 38 years, Penny’s daughter Emily and her granddaughter, Myla. Also included was Patti Shane (late Brody Harrington) and her son Jordan. Jocelyn had a large, wonderful supportive circle of friends including Mary and Geoff English and Wendy Thompson. Jocelyn is reunited with her beloved first dog, Ozzie, and leaves Toby behind to brighten our lives.

Jocelyn was born in Halifax to a Naval officer and nurse. Gillian was born in 1954 and then the family was transferred to Quebec City where Colette was born in 1957. Being in the Forces, the family was then transferred to Victoria BC and then to Ottawa in 1962. Jocelyn had a loving childhood and her friends remember to this day, coming over to enjoy Vonie’s Wednesday baking days. She went to Laurentian High School and then to the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1972. She nursed for a few years in pediatrics. She then attended Algonquin College and completed the Child Care Worker diploma and worked with teenaged kids at the Youth Services Bureau. Given her love for working with children, she went  back to Algonquin to become an Early Childhood Educator. She then worked at the Glebe Parents Day Care for 38 years. She and her husband Dave were the Coordinators there and she also worked in the toddler and baby rooms until her retirement in 2015. She was so loved at the Day Care by the children and their parents.

Jocelyn had Jonathan later in life, in 1993, and he became the light of her life. She particularly enjoyed  family gatherings especially at Don’s family cottage at Lac Bob, Quebec. Jocelyn and Dave loved to camp and enjoyed their many excursions to Algonquin park. They also made many trips to Vancouver to visit Shannon and her family. This instilled a love for the mountains and ocean in Jonathan, who resides there today. After Jon moved there, Jocelyn made numerous trips to Vancouver to see him and his partner, Jenna, her family, as well as Patti and Jordan. She also went to Cuba with friends Penny and Wendy and had many fond memories of those times.

Jocelyn was a kind and caring person who built bridges. She loved fiercely and could always look at the other side of things. She carried on her mother’s legacy by becoming a fabulous baker. A cancer diagnosis in 2022 changed her life but she was so brave and optimistic throughout the last 3 and a half years.

A Celebration of her Life will be held on Tuesday November 18th between 7pm to 9pm (with tributes at 8pm) at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa. Those who cannot attend in person are welcome to view the tributes via livestream by clicking HERE

Memorial donations would be appreciated to Kidney Cancer Canada, an organization that provided  Jocelyn and Colette with so much support.

Colette and Jonathan would like to thank the doctors involved in Jocelyn’s care: Centretown Community Healthcare Center’s Drs. Hodge, Duggan and Li who took such good care of her during her life. From the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, Drs. Canil and Beltran provided Jocelyn and Colette with such wonderful support and guidance.  Drs. Whetter, Chan and Douglas kept Jocelyn comfortable during her time of palliative care. Her many nurses were so kind.

Jocy, you will remain in our hearts forever and never be forgotten. Rest well.
