John Olsen passed away peacefully on April 1 surrounded by his loving family. The 90-year-old lived a life of reinventions, leaving Denmark at 22 to come to Canada to start a new life. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lis Olsen.
The couple had three daughters: Betty (Luis), Nancy, and Wendy (Tom); four grandsons: Christian, Geoffrey (Aaryn), Mathew (Alice) and Neil; and two great-grandchildren: Aidi and Nathan.
John settled in Richmond, Ontario in 1961, where he lived until his passing. He owned a siding business for 35 years. He was a devoted member of the Danish Club of Ottawa and the Richmond Legion. John was an avid gardener, and enjoyed golf and bowling.
He was the centre of the universe for his grandchildren, who always enjoyed their time with him, and later became golfing partners.
A celebration of life will take place on April 26 at the Richmond Legion from 2 to 4 p.m. Friends are invited to join.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
