I first met Dave in Gander in "89 during shift changes on the SD position. He taught me so much back then. Our paths next crossed at work at Oglivie,,,,he continued to teach me things. I will miss him.

It is with great sadness that I received the news of Monty's passing. We crossed paths a few times during the Management/Union meetings at CSE where I was the minutes taker. I have fond memories of him. I still have the book and a few articles written about the Hercules crash that he survived on October 30, 1991. In my eyes, he exemplified the word 'courage'. My deepest sympathy to his family and to his many friend who feel the loss.

To Beth, Morgan and the entire Montgomery family and friends, we have all lost another great man, co-worker and brother in Arms. Monty's contribution to the 291 family/trade will always be remembered and celebrated, RIP my friend. Monty had T-shirts made for all of us on our 6A course with the words "Rubberheads with Attitudes" !!

To Beth, Morgan, Family Members & Friends, The members of the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio (SUPRAD) System Oldtimers Association were deeply saddened by the news of Monty’s passing. All those who were friends with Monty, before the 30 October 1991 Hercules aircraft crash in Alert, and in the years following, can attest to the fact that his pleasant personality and positive attitude never wavered. The courage, determination and perseverance that Monty displayed throughout all of hardships that he endured were commendable, and he was an inspiration to every one of us. He was, without a doubt, an exemplary fighter and a true hero. All those who proudly served with Monty, as members of the Communicator Research (MOC 291) family and at Communications Security Establishment (CSE) will forever remember all of the enjoyable times, and the many laughs that were shared. Monty genuinely valued the many friendships that he made during his life’s journey, and as a result, he became a Life Member of our SUPRAD Oldtimers Association. There is a ‘Tree of Life’ located in the entranceway of the Canadian Forces Station Leitrim All Ranks Mess. Because Monty was a loved and valued member of our Association, a small bronze cross will now be placed on the leaf that bears his name. Thank you Monty, for your dedicated and loyal service and for your valued friendship. Please know that as members of your extended military family, we will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. ‘Friends Forever’

Monty as a former colleague I think it's fair to say there was never a battle you were not prepared to take on. Whether for yourself or for another colleague. My first memory of knowing you was in fact October 1991. I still have vivid memories of that day, the hours of waiting, not knowing and finding out you were on the plane. Then realizing you were the guy in the smart black and white navy uniform, who I had run into a few times around the office. I do recall one conversation we had after you returned to work as a civilian, I asked how you were doing and you told me about the work you were doing with War Amps, talking to children, sharing your story to help them move on from their own life changing situations. How the work gave you strength and purpose. While we never worked directly together our circles intersected over the years and I had the opportunity to watch you work to better the lot of your colleagues through your engagement with UNDE. Even as a manager I recall saying "we should go to Monty" or "let's have a chat with Monty about this". Life challenged you and you were fair, honest, good humoured back. I wish you fair winds and calm seas as you start your next journey. You will be missed.

Morgan & Beth I send my sincerest condolences. Monty was an incredible man! I served in Alert with Monty who was also my planey and shiftmate as a Lumberjack in 1987 and as a young single female (and a minority) I was often teased and sometimes not treated too well by some of the guys, Monty always treated me with respect and was a true gentleman! He was the silent strong one who I could always go to if I needed advice on how to handle the not so gentlemanly guys and his sense of humour often helped me get through difficulties during my deployment, he was like a big brother for me and I could count on him to keep me safe. May God bless you and hold you tightly during this most difficult time.

It is with great sadness that I heard of Monty’s passing. He fought hard until the end and he enabled a whole community to reacquaint themselves with each other during his last battle, a unique endeavour and noteworthy achievement. Through his time amongst us Monty mentored, helped, elevated and supported many, even though he had suffered much more then many and had the scars to show. A Good One Gone but he will never be forgotten. May God Bless his soul.

During the Masset Raindrop Festival in 89, the JRC adopted a 50's theme. Somehow we thought an Oscar Meyer Weiner would be a great mascot. Monty carried that huge paper mache hot dog to all the events. It was hilarious and he did it with pride. We won that year. We all had so much fun.
